Elon Musk revealed that SpaceX "basically uses no AI." "I mean, oddly enough, one of the areas where there's almost no AI used is space exploration," Musk replied. "So SpaceX uses basically no AI, Starlink does not use AI. At X, Musk integrated his AI chatbot Grok — similar to ChatGPT — into the social media platform. Musk also considered using AI to help summarize news on the site.

Elon Musk wants to combine Twitter and Grok, his AI engine, and create a news machine. Elon Musk thinks news is something different: It's what people talk about on the service formerly known as Twitter. Musk said Grok will not look directly at article text, and will instead rely solely on social posts. Definitely not in the Elon Musk era of the company formerly known as Twitter. The to-be-sures: Yes, you'd be foolish to rely on an Elon Musk-run AI machine for factual information.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said training AI could one day cost $100 billion. Amodei told CNBC that he isn't worried about the commoditization of large language AI models. Amodei told CNBC that current models already cost a company $100 million to develop — and that price will only increase as the technology advances. "I think we're going to see models trained in the next year are going to be about $1 billion," Amodei told the outlet. Amodei said some AI models may specialize in topics like law or national security, while others could gain expertise in biochemistry.

New York CNN —It appears that Elon Musk has finally (mostly) given up on trying to make paid blue checks on X a thing. The return of the free blue check may be a sign that the blue check subscription business hasn’t panned out the way that Musk hoped. Musk’s purge of legacy blue checks was a messy, months-long process. And when anyone could buy a blue check, it was no longer an exclusive symbol that conferred some kind of status. Within hours of the unpaid blue checks reappearing, users were sharing advice about how to ensure they didn’t show up on their profiles.

Some users have been re-verified on X for being a "notable" account and given a blue check. During this time, the blue check has come to mean something very specific: someone who actually pays for X. (OK, I'm sure that not ALL people who were paying for a blue check fall into those categories. AdvertisementThere hasn't been an official explanation of why a bunch of formerly verified people just got a free blue check. I think the only reasonable answer here is to hide the blue check and enjoy the free features.

Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas said Elon Musk's xAI is stiff competition in the recruiting space. The AI CEO said Musk's company offers the highest compensation at the moment. Aravind Srinivas, the CEO of the AI company Perplexity, said it can be difficult to compete with the Tesla CEO when recruiting. Musk launched his own AI startup, xAI, last year and Srinivas said it has since become one of the highest-paying companies for AI talent — on par with OpenAI. In January, Financial Times reported that Musk's AI venture was in talks to raise $6 billion at around a $20 billion valuation.

Elon Musk released the raw computer code behind his version of an artificial intelligence chatbot on Sunday, an escalation by one of the world’s richest men in a battle to control the future of A.I. Grok, which is designed to give snarky replies styled after the science-fiction novel “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy,” is a product from xAI, the company Mr. Musk founded last year. While xAI is an independent entity from X, its technology has been integrated into the social media platform and is trained on users’ posts. By opening the code up for everyone to view and use — known as open sourcing — Mr. Musk waded further into a heated debate in the A.I. Mr. Musk, a self-proclaimed proponent of open sourcing, did the same with X’s recommendation algorithm last year, but he has not updated it since.

OpenAI has challenged a foundational claim Tesla CEO Elon Musk made in the lawsuit he filed against the startup earlier this month. "There is no Founding Agreement, or any agreement at all with Musk, as the complaint itself makes clear," OpenAI said in a document on file with California's superior court for San Francisco County. "The Founding Agreement is instead a fiction Musk has conjured to lay unearned claim to the fruits of an enterprise he initially supported, then abandoned, then watched succeed without him." Musk quoted OpenAI's 2015 certificate of incorporation with the Delaware secretary of state, asserting that it "memorialized" the founding agreement. "Seeing the remarkable technological advances OpenAI has achieved, Musk now wants that success for himself," OpenAI said in its filing.

By contrast, Musk appeared to discourage OpenAI co-founders from taking a too-lean approach to fundraising, according to emails the company reproduced from December 2018. The startup also said in its blog post that Musk sought to become OpenAI's CEO in 2017 as it was changing its structure. In emails from January 2018 reproduced by OpenAI, Musk agrees with an unnamed sender who encouraged the startup's co-founders to rely on Tesla as their "cash cow." CNBC has not independently verified the authenticity of the emails included in OpenAI's response on Tuesday, some of which contained partial redactions. Attorneys for Elon Musk were not available to comment on Tuesday night after OpenAI published its response.

Last week, Musk sued OpenAI and co-founders Sam Altman and Greg Brockman for breach of contract and fiduciary duty. "It's certainly a good advertisement for the benefit of Elon Musk," Kevin O'Brien, partner at Ford O'Brien Landy LLP and former assistant U.S. attorney, told CNBC. In the suit, Musk's lawyers say they want OpenAI to return to its work as a research lab and no longer exist for the "financial benefit" of Microsoft. Musk's attorneys didn't respond to a request for comment. Musk has an AI company of his own, X.AI, which introduced a competing chatbot called Grok in November after two months of training.

Elon Musk has been heavily criticising Google over the past week. Since the launch of Google's Gemini image generator, he's shared and replied to more than 100 posts about the company. Sharing a screenshot of one of Krawczyk's posts, Musk wrote : "This nut is a big part of why Google's AI is so racist & sexist." To give Musk some credit, Google's AI also appeared to be hard on him personally. After taking a similar issue with OpenAI's ChatGPT, Musk founded his own AI company and released Grok, a competing chatbot.

While some people (mainly fans of Musk) have embraced the X brand, most have not. Many people, both online and in person, still call the platform Twitter, and refer to posts as tweets. So the brand is what they say it is… it’s not that customers can’t stop calling it Twitter, it’s that they won’t.”

Silicon Valley CEOs are doing battle in public. AdvertisementThe Silicon Valley elite have been at each other's throats a little more than usual lately. AdvertisementThe latest example of this came this week when Mark Zuckerberg derided Apple's Vision Pro headset in an Instagram video. The Vision Pro is a direct competitor to Meta's Quest Pro but Zuckerberg does not appear concerned for now. “If you go back to the PC era, Microsoft’s open model was the winner, and in this next generation Meta is going to be the open model, and I really want to make sure that the open model wins out again.”Zuckerberg has good reason to be on the offense.
